Since I've been living in Barcelona, I've met more Mexicans than Catalans here, well almost. 
Of course there are quite some differences between Mexican Spanish and the variant spoken here, but my favourite Mexican also brought a difference to my attention in non verbal communication. Just like in Spain, and in Belgium, and in many other countries I suppose, people in Mexico can say 'no' by moving their forefinger from left to right repeatedly, similarly as one would shake their head. Well, in the same way, in Mexico, people can 'nod' with their finger, moving it up and down, to indicate assent. This gesture is mostly used when some inconvenience is impeding the 'speaker' from moving their head (e.g. while drinking, smoking,...). Although people do nod and shake their heads in the same way in Mexico, Spain and Belgium, of these three, the finger gesture indicating 'yes' is only used in Mexico. And it is used a lot. I have seen it being used by practically every Mexican I met, some of which I spent less than an hour talking to.
I wonder where in the world which of the finger gestures are used, and whether they (partly) reflect the way people say 'yes' or 'no' with their heads (if such exists). Of course I was hoping you could help me find out.

Hola a todos.
Viviendo en Barcelona he conocido a más mexicanos que catalanes, pues casi. Aparte de algunas diferencias entre el español mexicano y el castellano de aquí en las que se puede fijar ("¿ustedes dicen bajar para abajo? ¡no mames, güey!"), mi mexicana favorita me señaló una diferencia en gestículas también. En México, como en España, en Bélgica y supongo en muchos otros países, se puede señalar 'no' por mover el dedo (índice) de la izquierda a la derecha repetidas veces, de hecho al igual que se nega con la cabeza. Pues, de la misma manera, en México existe una gestícula con el dedo con la que se puede decir que sí. Se suele usar cuando hay inconveniencias que dificultan al 'interlocutor' de asentir con la cabeza (por ejemplo cuando está fumando, bebiendo,...), y - lo que es interesante - también refleja la manera de indicar que sí con la cabeza: subiendo y bajando el dedo repetidamente. Esta gestícula se usa muy a menudo, la vi ser usado por casi cada uno de los mexicanos a quienes conocí, con algunos de cuales hablé menos de una hora. Aunque sí también se asiente y se nega con la cabeza de la misma manera en México, España, Bélgica y algunas otras partes, esta gestícula señalando que 'sí' con el dedo no se usa en España, ni en Bélgica, y nunca la he visto usarse en ninguna otra parte de Europa.
Me pregunto en qué partes del mundo se usan cuales de estas gestículas con el dedo para indicar que sí y que no, y si reflejan (en parte) las maneras de decir que sí o que no con la cabeza (si hay). Espero que vosotros podáis ayudarme.
